Following nominations we have 54 teams entered into TS ORFF* Knockout Competitions this year. The 2018 format will be quite different this year so hopefully this can explain it fairly simply.

13 teams have qualified for the 2018 ORFF* Champions League between Rounds 7 and 11 (no play in Round 10). 2 further teams have secured a half qualifying spot for the Champions League and will clash in a winner takes all Round 6 Champions League Playoff contest and then enter the Champions League in the Round of 16 in Round 7.

39 other teams will be competing in the 2018 ORFF* Knockout between Rounds 2 and 7, 25 of these teams will have a bye in Round 2 and enter the completion in Round 3 while 14 teams will battle it out in Round 2.

As well as securing the 2018 Knockout title the winning Knockout Grand Finalist will secure an additional Champions League spot and will enter that competition in the Quarter Finals the next week – ie Round 8.

2018 Champions League allocations occurred as follows
    - 12 spots based on 2017 League placings - 3 spots to each competition including Premiers and next 2 highest ranked other sides based on 2017 Home and Away ladder position (excluding teams who did not nominate) - ie Sarah Island, Mallacoota, Tarwin Lower, Waikiks, Venus Bay, Marble Bar, Serengeti, Southern Cross, Nuytsland, Mt Thirsty, Drouin, Jan Juc
    - 1 spot to the 2017 ORFF* Knockout winners – with Nuytsland winning the 13th direct spot nominally goes to the Vikings and as they had already qualified then Groote Eyland were added as the next highest nominated ORFFU side after home and away
    - 1 spot to the 2018 ORFF* Knockout winners (entering at the Quarter Final stage)
    - 2 half spots to the 2017 ORFF* Knockout Runners up and 3rd place teams – Rutherglen and Jan Juc. As Jan Juc had already qualified then Neptune Island were added as the next highest nominated ORFFF side after home and away. As above Rutherglen will host Neptune Island in Round 6 with the winner playing in the Champions League Round of 16 in Round 7.

First Round ORFF Knockout byes were allocated to teams finishing top 12 on 2017 Home and Away ladder positions for the ORFFL, ORFFA, ORFFU and ORFFF (excluding the teams who qualified for the Champions League). Ivanhoe and Pakenham were the lucky 13th placed teams in also gaining a bye while Wineglass Bay and Black Swamp will playoff with the teams lower ranked 14-18 in the first weekend of competition in Round 2.

With no further ado please note that the following Knockout draw is for Rounds 2-5 only. Following Round 5 the Knockout Semi Finals and Champions League draw will be advised.

In the Knockout Grand Final held at Flying Fish Cove, Christmas Island, the visiting Coolgardie Prospectors @JPK have held on to win against the home team, 1355 to 1248.
Stef Martin was dominant in the ruck scoring 114 for the Prospectors while Dunstan, Beams and Taylor with 114,108, 107, toiled tirelessly in the 2nd half to try and get The Smugglers @DamoH back into the game but to no avail. Dusty 87, was well below par but even with his normal heroics, it wouldn't have been enough to bridge the 107 point gap.
Christmas Island can now return to the ORFFU,currently lying in 2nd place and try and catch the unbeaten leader Ararat @insider .

      AFL Round 8 - as per http://tooserious.net/forum/tsLeagues.php?leagueId=20&round=8

ORFF* Champions League Quarter Finals - 3 ORFFL, 3 ORFFU, 1 ORFFA and 1 ORFFF team remain

Match 9 Groote Eylandt Barracudas ORFFU @YAD69 vs Venus Bay Vultures ORFFA @Fitzy – Venus Bay makes the long trek North confident that it has the firepower to win this match, while the ‘Cudas will be out to banish the ORFFA’s lone remaining side from the competition.

Match 10 Southern Cross Sandgropers ORFFU @eagle_eyed vsTarwin Lower Pigs ORFFL @Kel, Tarwin Lower rode their luck in the Round of 16 and will need to lift substantially if they are to give the hometown Sandgropers a run for their money. Ryder is set to play for both sides while Stringer and Mat Kennedy both ran out for the Pigs in Round 7 while being emergencies for the Sandgropers.

Match 11 - Sarah Island Savages ORFFL @4nsy vs Coolgardie Prospectors ORFFU @jpk – the winningest team that has ever won up against the team that won the Knockout comp grand final to collect it’s first ever silverware.

Match 12 - Jan Juc Ducks ORFFF @thokash vs Mallacoota Magicians ORFFL @thokash – for the second year running in intercomp play @thokash’s sides clash with a semi final spot on the line with the Ducks prevailing by 31 points in Round 6, 2017 and needing to repeat the dose to avoid the ORFFF being unrepresented in the Final Four.

      Good luck all.

@TheTassieHawk Deep into the match at the Sandpit and it’s @Kel ’s visiting Pigs leading the Sandgropers by 98 points.

      SCS - 1061/11
      TLP - 1159/14

It’ll be tough for the Pigs to hang on with only Pendlebury to come, especially after umpires found a Matthew Kennedy shaped doughnut on Tarwin’s interchange and they were asked to remove it from the ground. The home side’s J.Selwood, Duncan, Cunnington & Stephenson will need to outscore Pendles by 99 for Southern Cross to progress to the semis.

      Go Gropers!

Sarah Island Savages ORFFL 1181 def by Coolgardie Prospectors ORFFU 1228 (47 points)

A week after piling up 1494 the Magicians were unable to conjure up a similar score and were comfortably defeated by the Ducks for the 2nd year running.

      AFL Round 9 - as per http://tooserious.net/forum/tsLeagues.php?leagueId=20&round=9

ORFF* Champions League Semi Finals - 2 ORFFU, 1 ORFFA and 1 ORFFF team remain

Match 13 Venus Bay Vultures ORFFA @Fitzy vs Southern Cross Sandgropers ORFFU @eagle_eyed

How they made it this far

Venus Bay Vultures (8-0 and 1st in the ORFFA, 10638 points scored)
      Rd 7 - def Drouin ORFFF 1330 to 1087 (243 points)
      Rd 8 - def Groote Eylandt ORFFU 1346 to 1288 (58 points))

Southern Cross Sandgropers (6-2 and 3rd in the ORFFU, 10262 points scored)
      Rd 7 - def Waikikamoocow ORFFA 1394 to 1317 (77 points)
      Rd 8 - def Tarwin Lower ORFFL 1428 to 1206 (222 points)

The Gropers make the trip East knowing that they will need to outwit, outlast and outplay a Vultures side that is tearing up the ORFFA this season (and as coach of the Nuffers my lot got torn up in a big way last week).

Match 14 Coolgardie Prospectors ORFFU @JPK vs Jan Juc Ducks ORFFF @thokash

How they made it this far

Coolgardie Prospectors (5-3 and 7th in the ORFFU, 9741 points scored)
      Rd 3 - def Wagga Wagga ORFFA 1152 to 931 (221 points)
      Rd 4 - def Coulta ORFFL 1382 to 1208 (174 points)
      Rd 5 - def Tamarama Beach ORFFL 1255 to 1220 (35 points)
      Rd 6 - def Cockburn ORFFF 1044 to 1017 (27 points)
Rd 7 – KNOCKOUT GRAND FINAL - def Christmas Island ORFFU 1355-1248 (107 points)

      Rd 8 - def Sarah Island ORFFL 1228 to 1181 (47 points))

Jan Juc Ducks (3-5 and 9th in the ORFFF, 10369 points scored)
      Rd 7 - def Serengeti ORFFU 1314 to 1042 (272 points)
      Rd 8 - def Mallacoota ORFFL 1432 to 1301 (131 points)

Having won the ORFF* Knockout against the Smugglers and then scalped the Savages in consecutive weeks the Prospectors will be defending a 6 match unbeaten streak in intercomp play this season – including 3 by less than 50 points. To make it 7 in a row they must overcome a fearsome task against a Jan Juc side that is finding form at the pointy end of the competition and are well accustomed to playing big matches in the West.

As with the 2017 Knockout comp the 2018 ORFF* Champions League Semi Finals will provide the winners with a spot in the 2018 ORFF* Champions League Grand Final in Round 11 as well as a guaranteed place in the 2019 ORFF* Champions League regardless of their 2018 finishing position in their 2018 ORFF* competition. This week’s semi final losers will have a second chance for qualifying for 2019 in a Champions League 3rd place clash in Round 11.

      Good luck all.

@Fitzy - i would love to see some score updates (for both games) even if it is a late saturday/early Sunday summary

Venus Bay in Round 3, 2017 and Drouin in Round 4, 2017 were the only ones I saw from last year, there may have been more.

It is not without chance that one of the 4 remaining teams can top the Magicians mark in the next 2 rounds but 1500 is a rare feat in any ORFF* comps, I am pretty confident that there will be some great scoring contests in the last 4 matches.

At 3 Quarter time in the WCE vs Richmond match and with Brisbane and Hawthorn scores subject to scaling I have LIVE SCORES as the Vultures 1307 @Fitzy (Gaff 93, Yeo 77) narrowly trailing the Sandgropers 1316 @eagle_eyed (Darling 131, McGovern 110).

The home crowd will be behind the home side as they hope to peg back the visitors by the final siren.

I reckon my Sandgropers took it. Darling & Gov took the matter into their own hands. Go Gropers!!!

By my calculations the Southern Cross Sandgropers have taken out the match against @Fitzy ’s Venus Bay Vultures by 15 points. The seamingly unlikely made possible by stellar performances from Darling (181) and Gov (123).

      VBV 1364
      SCS 1379

Cracking match at Optus today and an even better one in the ORFF* semi.

Jack Darling wowee, hard to beat that! Well done @eagle_eyed !

Apologies for not being able to get the live scores done TTH, had a pretty flat out weekend in the end but did get to check in during the Eagles game to find Darling was winning this game off his own boot!
