The 2022B ORFFW finals series commences with the following AFLW Round 9 matchups

    Manildra (1st, 8-0, 6911) TTH vs Timboon (3rd, 6-2, 6090) @Peter W
    H2H – MAN 1 : TIM 1 (never played in finals)
Finals Record – Manildra 1-2, Timboon making their finals debut
2022B vs top 6 – Manildra 3-0 (dnp Timboon or Scone), Timboon 2-1 (dnp Manildra or VBV)

The 2022B ORFFW minor premiers welcome a Trailblazers side that specialised in playing tight matches with 5 of their 8 home and away games decided by less than 50 points. Coach @Peter W will be imploring his troops to treat this week as just another game while the Mystix will look to build scoreboard pressure early in the contest and test the credentials of the visitors under finals intensity.

    LSC (2nd, 6-2, 6329) @dmandrews vs Vivonne Bay (4th, 5-3, 6365) @That KI Guy
    H2H – LSC 3 : VBV 1 (incl 1-0 to LSC in finals)
    Finals Record – LSC 2-1, VBV 1-1
2022B vs top 6 - LSC 2-2 (dnp Wongan Hills), VBV 0-2 (dnp Timboon, Wongan Hills or Scone)

The 2020 and 2022A ORFFW premiers welcome the 2022A runners up in the 2022A Grand Final Replay. The two sides make history in providing the first ORFFW repeat finals matchup. The H2H record reflects how strong the Devils have been since the competition’s inception, however the Valks have built their list nicely and boast the 2nd best offense for season 2022B.

AFLW Round 9 action commences at 540pm (Melb time) on Friday so please get your teams sorted early in the week and then tweak lineups as need as further teams drop.

Lake St Clair Devils Round 9 team

    No change

Def: Georgia Garnett, Alex Ballard, Meghan McDonald (Jess Hosking)
Mid: Jasmine Garner, Emma Swanson, Monique Conti, Lily Mithen (Charlotte Baskaran)
    Ruc: Lucy Wales (Emma King)
Fwd: Courtney Jones, Jacqueline Vogt, Kate Shierlaw (Kalinda Howarth)
Int: Kirsty Lamb, Olivia Vesely (Catherine Phillips)

Lake St Clair Devils play the Vivonne Bay Valkeries in their second consecutive finals game of 2022 and the fourth time overall for the year so there will be no excuses if players don’t follow the opposition scout. Match ups in all three sections of the ground look to be fairly evenly matched, based on averages to date this season less than 20 points separates each line vs line battle. Each forward line has a slight advantage over the opposing defense with the Devils forwards +19 and the Valks forwards +13. LSC are +13 in the midfield and +3 on the interchange whilst VBV are +8 in the ruck. Both sides have had one win an no losses in games decided by under 10 points in season 2022B with the Valkeries defeating the Galahs by six points in Round 1 and the Devils defeating Timboon by eight points in Round 4.

    Good luck @That KI Guy

That's tough when you've been the best team all year. I've been hit and miss, so not shocked to have a good week, could easily have my worst week next week.

The Unofficial score I have got is

    Lake St Clair Devils 912

    Defeated

    Vivonne Bay Valkeries 717

LSC Best players: Monique Conti 124, Jasmine Garner 99, Emma Swanson 99

VBV best players: Georgia Prespakis 92, Olivia Purcell 84, Lucy McEvoy 79

Lake St Clair delivered their best performance of season 2022B to score 912 and defeat the Valkeries by approximately 195 points in a preliminary final. The Devils had the best three players on the field with their big three comprised of Garner, Swanson and Conti scoring 322 points between them to set up the victory. This trio who all averaged 80+ during the home and away season were well supported by another six players that scored at least 60, including all three forwards Vogt (78), Shierlaw (72) and Jones (62).

Ten Valkeries scored at least 49 in the preliminary final, however Prespakis, Purcell and McEvoy were the only three VBV players that scored over 61. Remarkably, more than half of Vivonne Bay’s preliminary final side was born in the 2000’s - M Caan, R Webster, O Purcell, T Hanks, T Hickie (all 2000), L McEvoy (2001) and G Prespakis (2003). Commiserations on the loss @That KI Guy. Awesome job by your Valkeries to make the finals in both 2022 seasons and rank second for points scored during the 2022B home and away season behind the Mystix.

    Well played Dean.
My squad well and truly shat the bed this week. That said, 900+ was gonna be a tall order even with all pistons firing.

Good luck in the B2B quest.

Week 1 of the ORFFW finals saw an inspired Timboon @Peter W performance led by none other than the AFLW Fantasy GOAT Kiara Bowers and a s superb supporting cast outperform a Manildra side that struggled mightily to hand the step up to finals level pressure. THE Blazers executed their game plan to perfection, refused to buckle and went on to win comfortably at the final siren to qualify for their first Grand Final.

Their opposition will be the competition's inaugural powerhouse, Lake St Clair @dmandrews.

The Devils vs Valks match was much like the 2022 AFL men's Grand Final - hard to watch for the losing side @That KI Guy, great to watch for the winning side and a very uncomfortable watch for the sides looking to contend in future ORFFW seasons as they consider the sustained excellence of a side who are seeking to add their 3rd ORFFW Premiership to their trophy case which also boasts 3 ORFFW minor premierships as well.

Commiserations to the losing prelim finalists who now can enjoy a standard length AFLW/ORFFW offseason before returning for another tilt at ORFFW glory in 2023.
